Design statement:
New Growth Learning Co.’s schools encourage their students to blossom into bright minds to be this countries future. This new project in Greenwich Village was a new undertaking for the company in the expansion of their brand to include community centers in addition to the K-12 school. In this evolving society, sustainable design is a big feature clients are asking for, including my client New Growth Learning Co. The location adds a difficulty for the school. Children need time to run around and enjoy fresh air and teens need to the connection to nature. Using environmental psychology and connection to nature, the space will inspire and excite the developing minds of the future. Keeping the clients requests in mind and my personal background in fire science/safety, all materials for the project are sustainable and have high fire rating.
The concept of a honey locust tree was applied to the project to influence the shapes, textures, color palette, and feel of the spaces. The tree is a species seen in the local area of the site as well as other places over the United States. The tree symbolizes the connection to nature, sustainability, growth, and welcoming community throughout the project.
